A few years ago, when I was starting my online dropshipping business I have made the biggest dropshipping mistakes which cost me a lot of money. So, in this post, I am going to discuss the common dropshipping mistakes which almost all the newbies make when they try to make money dropshipping on Shopify.
I wish I knew these dropshipping beginner mistakes when starting Shopify dropshipping and it could have saved me a lot of money at that time. But guys, you are lucky because if you want to know how to set up a successful dropshipping business, then this post is a must-read for you. I am going to breakdown all the Shopify dropshipping problems you are going to face at the beginning of your eCommerce journey which will help you to build a successful dropshipping business.
Ecommerce is very profitable if you do it in the right way. So, pay full attention to all these eCommerce mistakes that you have to take care of.
1) Test New Products Frequently
As we all know eCommerce is all about products whether it is a physical or digital product. And if you are dropshipping physical products from international suppliers and not testing enough products on daily basis, then believe me it’s not the right way to do eCommerce dropshipping.
Because let’s say if you have one or two products which are giving you consistent sales right now, then at some time they are also going to die soon and their sales will stop because some other dropshippers or competitors are also selling the same product right now and it is going to get saturated very soon if your competitors are putting a lot of money in paid advertisements.
So, that’s why you must have other best dropshipping products in the loop that will give you consistent sales when the old ones get saturated. So, try to test as many products as possible on the daily basis.
2) Don’t Get Attached With The Products
This is also one of the most common dropshipping mistakes that most beginners do and I have also made these mistakes in the past and lost a lot of money in paid advertisements by getting attached to the bad products (really a lot of money guys).
When we try to find trending & best selling products by spying on other big Shopify stores, we may find a lot of products to sell but are these products worth testing. This is the question we should ask ourselves while importing new products in our stores.
Many times it happens when we spy on Shopify stores and see if this store is selling this product easily then I can also sell this product without any problem. But this is not the case every time because we don’t know how much sales and Facebook pixel data that store has for that specific product. Maybe they have fully saturated that product in the market and after that, if we try to sell that same product and we didn’t get sales we get demotivated and many times we try to over test these type of products using different angles which results in a big loss of money for new dropshippers.
I am not saying that you should not test these best selling products, but I am saying that you should not do over-testing of any of the products.
So, the solution to this problem is simple, that you should set a specific budget for testing products on Facebook or google based on the profit margin of the products you are testing. In this way, you will be able to decide that I am not going to put an extra penny if this product didn’t give me any sales or profit by spending the amount of budget that you have decided on that product.
Before all these product testing, the most important thing that you should take care of is eCommerce product page optimization. Make sure, the product pages of your Shopify store should be optimized in the best way before putting a penny on the paid advertisements.
So, don’t get attached to the products that don’t work and switch to new hot and profitable dropshipping products quickly.
3) Be Different And Unique
If you are selling saturated dropshipping products or any simple and new products on your Shopify dropshipping store, then you should sell it differently and uniquely as compared to your competitors. Don’t just copy the product title, description, price, advertisement copy, advertisement images, and videos of the product from your competitor’s website while importing the product into your store. Because if you do eCommerce in this way, then it is just going to harm your online store conversion rate and you will never make a profit in dropshipping business.
Like every other business, this is also a business and you should make a good drop shipping business strategy, and the more you work uniquely the more you succeed in e-commerce.
So, if you are selling any item online then make and upload your product videos, images, and product descriptions. There are also some online services like eCom vids, who can help you in creating your own branded product videos.
If you are getting negative reviews and complaints about any products that you are selling on your store. Then you can try to show the weakness of the product positively.
Like take an example of the beach blanket that is very thin and customers are complaining about the same. Then you can simply put a bullet point in the product description of that beach blanket that “It is made up of thin material so that you can fold it easily and help feel the texture of the sand at the beach.”
So, in this way you can show the weaknesses of the product positively and sell the products differently.
4) Firstly Learn Dropshipping & How To Run Paid Ads And Then Implement
Don’t dive into the Facebook ads and Google ads directly, if you don’t know how to run it. Firstly, take some time to learn these things from a credible source, and once you are ready to run ads then implement it slowly, so that you should not end up losing money.
For learning Facebook Ads, you can check out Kevin David’s Facebook Ads Training.
I have also made these mistakes in the past, so I don’t want you to repeat the same. I have spent a lot of money on Facebook ads when I was not knowing what I was doing and indirectly made Mark Zuckerberg the richest person in the world.
So, I suggest you take some time by checking out some Shopify tutorials for beginners and don’t hurry to set up your Shopify dropshipping store.
5) Optimize The Cost Of Running an Ecommerce Business or Shopify Dropshipping Store
No matter which business you are doing whether it is eCommerce or anything else, cost optimization is the most important part of every type of business.
This is also one of the top Shopify Aliexpress dropshipping mistakes to avoid while getting started with Shopify. Many beginners install unnecessary and expensive Shopify apps from the Shopify apps store that are of not much use for them, and at the end of the day, they end up getting in loss and close their stores because of no money and demotivation.
You can use apps like the Vitals Shopify app which provides you 40+ sales and conversion optimizations features in a single app. And it will save you a lot of money because you don’t have to pay extra for importing reviews, bundling, upselling, currency conversions, sales pop, and many more amazing features to increase sales on your Shopify store.
So, make sure that you use only those Shopify apps which are making you money and remove all those apps which are eating your money and business.
6) Be Problem Solving And Don’t Irritate
If you are running an eCommerce business then you must become problem-solving in nature and do not get irritated while facing day to day challenges.
This is the only thing that separates experienced e-commerce sellers who are into the business for the long term and with the eCommerce sellers who just believes in quick rich schemes.
7) Find A Mentor If Possible
Entrepreneurship is a roller coaster.
In Entrepreneurship, you have to learn from your failures. So, you have to try and fail, again try and fail, and then you will win. And there is no shortcut to winning. But, if you have any mentor in your Entrepreneurship journey it will surely help you in succeeding fast by solving your problems with their past experiences.
So, if you are facing eCommerce dropshipping difficulties then try to find a good eCommerce coaching mentor who is already successful in the business in which you are struggling right now.
